Sharing Saturday is a simple concept. I share what someone else is up to; writers, artists, musicians. Anyone who is doing anything interesting. It’s a chance to share the work of people I like or admire.
I’m going to kick off the very first Sharing Saturday by showcasing the work of Andy Bigwood, not only because he’s a lovely chap but because he’s signing copies of his coffee table art-and-short-stories book “The Sixty” at Waterstones in Trowbridge today, so please pop along and say hi if you’re in the area.
HunterBird was created for BristolCon. The idea was to take a local iconic image – in this case the Council House – and give it an SF twist. This one is a nod to Thunderbirds!
This was my birthday present!
Andy will also be showing his art at the V&A Gallery (not that one!) at Green Park Station, Bath, from tomorrow. You can follow the Bath V&A on Twitter @BathVA.
Andy is a cartographer, draughtsman, bookbinder and artist, and has designed book covers for Storm Constantine’s Immanion Press, who also published “The Sixty” (http://www.immanion-press.com/ ). He also provided cover art for my own “Feline Queen”, and the posters for BristolCon. He has twice won the British Science Fiction Association Award for best artwork for the science fiction anthologies “disLOCATIONS” and “Subterfuge.”
This years BristolCon idea, reminiscent of Chris Foss…
If you can’t make it to Bath or Trowbridge this weekend, Andy will be displaying and selling his art at BristolCon ’11 in October, and his deviantArt page can be found here : http://topaz172.deviantart.com/
Pop along and say hello!
