I have been rummaging in the metaphorical trunk.  Trunk novels are ones that have been tucked away, deemed unready for public consumption – recent talk on Twitter has suggest the phrase be modernised to “external hard drive novel”, but I have a certain nostalgia for trunks. So trunk novel it is.

The reason for this rummage is that I’m approaching the point where I’m wondering what to do next.  I have a couple of ideas for future books, but I also have a book-and-a-half of a trunk trilogy, as well as some previously published out of print books to play with.

This is what I’ve got.

In Exile CoverThe New Kingdom Trilogy (Hierath, Exile, Eagle) are out of print and the second two volumes need a tight re-edit.  I’m wondering whether to find somewhere to re-submit them, or to hang on to them in case I end up with a larger press who might want to re-issue them (fingers crossed.)

“Leaving of Avenhelm” fell at the hurdle when I realised that what I thought was one book was actually three.  I have one complete volume that needs heavy editing, and about the first third of volume two. This one took me ages to write, and I’d like to go back to it.  I’m hoping editing Book One while knowing it’s a trilogy will rekindle my enthusiasm for it.

Leaving of Avenhelm fell by the wayside when I woke up one morning to find my brain had been hijacked by “Art of Forgetting”, which was the easiest book to write and has been an absolute sod to find a publisher for – such is life. (It’s my favourite – I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that! 😉 )  That one is an edited, submittable state, even though it’s a bit long.

“Spark and Carousel” needs another quick editing pass, or two, or three, or twenty, and the opening chapters are resting in the capable metallic claws of Angry Robot, who will either like it, or they won’t.

And then there are a couple of new book ideas that I can’t talk about yet, one set in Telesia, the other in the far east of Atrath.  Waiting to see if either of them sit up and beg for attention…

Choices choices!

What would you guys like to see from my word processor next?
