I’m sure everyone has a list of shame, a list of those books (or movies, or records) that you really should have got around to reading, but that have somehow passed you by. The ones that, when you read them, you’ll probably end up wishing you’d read them earlier – or you might regret reading them at all!
This post was promoted by Chris’s spluttering indignation that I hadn’t, I’m ashamed to admit, read Neuromancer by William Gibson, or Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. So this year I’m determined that if I don’t complete the List of Shame, at least I might put a bit of a dent in it.
The List of Shame
Neuromancer – William Gibson
The Name of the Wind – Patrick Rothfuss
Fahrenheit 451 – Ray Bradbury
2001 a Space Odyssey – Arthur C Clarke
The Lies of Locke Lamora – Scott Lynch
Ash – Mary Gentle
The Left Hand of Darkness – Ursula Le Guin
Brasyl – Ian McDonald
Cloud Atlas – David Mitchell
Pavane – Keith Roberts
Memory Sorrow and Thorn – Tad Williams
The Wheel of Time – Robert Jordan / Brandon Sanderson
Authors Of Shame – people I should have read but haven’t.
Peter Brett
Robin Hobb
Brent Weeks
John Scalzi
I can hear lots of cries of “I can’t believe you haven’t read….?” I’m sure there are loads more. Share your List of Shame with me, lets get some of these books read!
I have Neuromancer if you want to borrow it.
I’ve got it, i just haven’t read it yet…. 😀
I am appalled. No, really *hides own list behind back*. I have pretty much all of those if you would like to borrow any of them.
That’s the annoying thing, I’ve got most of them, I’ve just never read them. I think The Name of The Wind is the only one I’m missing. My TBR is crammed with good intentions!
:O name of the wind is so excellent. Wheel of time, it starts good, but does drag. so read the first one. that’s all that’s worth it 🙂 robin hobb is better as megan lindhome. wizaard of the pigeons is so amazing 🙂
I’ve got the first two books of WoT, I was holding off on getting any more in case it didn’t grab me – it’s a big investment of time! Name of The Wind is one I really want to read – so many people have recommended it to me.
You’d better get to it. 🙂
I just need to read faster. And give up sleep.
Watership Down! I started it a couple of years ago but never got past the first 10 pages or so for some reason. It gnaws (metaphorically) at the back of my head sometimes and I WILL pick it up again this year and finish it!
Watership Down is excellent, well worth a read.
I’m voting for Cloud Atlas – the only book lately that I’ve reread after reading it.
I do want to read that before the film comes out.
