An unexpected perk of having a book published, apart from all the lovely people who sent messages, left reviews and came to the launch, were the presents I got for doing something as clever and relatively pointless as putting words on paper in an entertaining fashion. From my outgoing editor Robert, in the post, I received a surprise bottle of very nice champagne and two beautiful flutes :
(We cracked open the champagne to celebrate my best friend moving house, but I kept the cork, and the box)
Then Andy Bigwood, who drew the map for Art of Forgetting as well as the covers for The Feline Queen, Dark Spires and Future Bristol, gave me a copy of the map, printed on reindeer vellum, scrolled, and in a presentation box. It is a thing of beauty, and I might have got a bit choked up at such a thoughtful present 🙂
And there was cake, from Heather and Amanda. There’s always room for cake. And a phone call from my little sister in New Zealand, at some unfathomably early hour of the morning.
And there are presents and prizes for YOU, dear bloggie 🙂 As well as the Art of Forgetting : Rider Goodreads giveaway (here) :
If you don’t fancy your chances with that there will be a chance to win this little lot on the Blog as soon as we reach 10,000 hits (we’re around 9,700 now, so it should be some time in the next few weeks). As you know, I’ve written a bunch of books, and one lucky winner gets to win the ruddy lot!
