Bristol has a long association with Star Wars – you might know that Dave Prowse, who played Darth Vader (well, not the voice, natch) is a Southmeader who used to be a bouncer on the door of Bristol’s jazz clubs – he had terrible corns, and Chris’s dad and his friends would stamp on his feet and then run past him while he was hopping up and down and swearing. As Eddie Izzard says, Darth Vader is only impressive because of the voice :
So the Star Wars connection with Bristol carries on this weekend, when Disney are holding open auditions in the Arnolfini for two leading roles in Star Wars VII, to be directed by JJ Abrams and released on December 18th 2015. They want, sadly, a streetwise teenage girl and a man in his early twenties, both attractive (which rules me out on all counts!)
So I don’t get to be in the new Star Wars movie *cries*. But Gareth and I did have a little brush with fame when I was contacted by Points West who were desperate to find someone to talk about the continuing appeal of Star Wars (In the House of Mouse, all lips were firmly sealed).
So Gareth and I, along with Alex from FP and a sneak appearance from Ack-Ack Macaque, can be found here happily geeking out :
Now I’m going to sit back and wait for the offers to play an Ewok to roll in….
