Great news this week (and a long overdue blog post, I’m sorry…). My short story “Illumination”, which appeared in The Book Of Dragons, edited by A J Dalton and published by Kristell Ink, has been shortlisted for Best Short Story at this years British Fantasy Society Awards, which will be presented at FantasyCon in October.
I’m thrilled to bits about this; I almost never write short stories and, I’ll level, I’d completely forgotten that I had promised Adam a story for Book of Dragons until he emailed me about ten days before the deadline to remind me about if and I totally told him I was working on it which was A Bit Of A Fib (ok, a complete fib) and then had to flounder to get it written at the last minute*. So to be shortlisted for a major award for it is just brilliant 😀

Sophie E Tallis who has been nominated for Best Artist – she has hand-drawn beautiful maps for both Anna Smith-Spark (The Court of Broken Knives which is also up for Best Novel AND Best Newcomer) and Anna Stephens (Godblind)
Margret Helgadottir – up for Best Anthology for the marvellous Pacific Monsters, published by Fox Spirit, who are also up for Best Publisher.
Joshua Cornah has been nominated for Best Comic / Graphic Novel for Grim and Bold, the new Best Audio category features Tea and Jeopardy, Pseudopod and Breaking The Glass Slipper, and Emma Newman is nominated for Best Novella for Brother’s Ruin.
And my publisher Grimbold Books has been nominated for Best Independent Press, which we won last year!
I will be at Fantasycon in Chester from the 19th-21st October – hope to see some of you there!
*This is normal for writers and any writer that tells you they are cool and unflappable and always hit their deadlines is telling porkies…
